Amazimg 60s recording. To the guy who doesn't like little school girl. WTF!!! I don't Even know what to say and obviously the china cat isn't studio!! Do you even know what this site is?? Or anything about the dead for that matter! Geezzz
Jerry rips! Any thing that Jerry plays kicks a**. Even though some times he hits a strange tangent, if you listen for ten minutes he blows your mind at least three times when he finds a rad groove. And this he does every time. F%om the 60's to the 90's he played the coolest R&R, and the rest of the boys were always as tight. The GD rules!!!!! Thanks, Bilbo!!!! This site is the Greatest!
Diggin that organ on the eleven
This is the 1st show I ever listened to. The Chinacat on here made me afan. Before that day I thought of GD as bullshit hippy music. A friend gave me a copy of 02-14-68 Carousel Ballroom and I gave it a chance. Now it's my favorite band. True Story.
The "Morning Dew," on this set is excellent. Typical clear Jerry guitar on that track. The "Dark Star" gets a little atonal, at times, but is decent. I'm not a fan of the likes of the "Little School Girl" and other fun stuff that many other Dead fans enjoy. It gets a little ragged, herein, on those-type cuts. I'm no afficianado - I think I'm hearing China Cat Sunflower. It's pretty good, certainly live and not a studio-quality recording, but, I really liked it, too.
I was child, when this was stuff was recorded, but, later in the 1968, I was literally at the corner of Haight and Ashbury (my father was among the curious - he was out there for seminary up in San Anselmo). I knew there was something going on that I wanted to be part, but couldn't. This set sounds just like what I heard, years later (1978), for the first time, in Knoxville, Tennessee, just after the first time I dropped acid. Too bad Jerry pretty much offed himself. There's a lot of hope and happiness, in the music of the day.
The set list is incorrect. The first song is "Morning Dew." The set then proceeds as listed.
Great stuff, I love '68.
Having only seen shows from '82 on, I can only imagine what it was like to have been there then... but this recording makes it a little easier to do that! Excellent quality. Thanks!!-erik65 p.s. for those searching info. on Neal Cassady, an enigmatic historical figure if there ever was one, wikipedia.com has an extensive entry.
they are really doing a particular rite here for Cassidy. This is superb really pushing the envelope as they say.
